After a change in plans due to field conditions, Saturday’s game against the Cusick Panthers will now be played here at Selkirk.
• Game 1: 12:00 PM
• Game 2: approximately 2:00 PM
This season opener has been a long time coming. After Tuesday’s game against Mary Walker was canceled and rescheduled due to weather, the team is more than ready to get out on the field.
A huge thank you to the players, coaches, and community members who put in the work to get our field in great condition for this first game of the season. It’s going to be a great day for baseball!
Come out and support the Rangers as they take on the Panthers!
(Note: The originally scheduled home game on 4/28 will now be played away at Cusick.)

Over the past two days, Selkirk seniors took part in mock interviews as part of Mrs. Cain’s Senior Careers class. These interviews have become an annual tradition and a true rite of passage as students prepare for graduation and life beyond high school.
Students dressed professionally and participated in 30-minute interviews with a panel of three industry professionals, based on a position they selected. This hands-on experience helps students build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and prepare for real-world job opportunities.
A big thank you to our community partners who made this possible:
• Pam Zimmerman - Seattle City Light
• Paul Nelson - Pend Oreille County Fire District #2
• Justin VanArsdall - United States Customs
The photos shared here capture students preparing for their interviews, working on resumes, practicing responses, and getting ready for the real experience. This preparation is a key part of the process and shows the effort our students put into being ready.
Opportunities like this are an important part of preparing our students for what comes next. It was great to see our seniors step up and take the process seriously!

Selkirk Spring Plays Wrap Up a Great Weekend of Theatre!
This weekend, 41 talented Selkirk students took the stage and behind-the-scenes roles to bring our spring theatre productions to life. After seven weeks of preparation, their hard work paid off with performances enjoyed by students, families, and community members at the Cutter Theatre.
The middle school cast performed It’s Bigfoot, bringing plenty of laughs as the legendary creature caused chaos at the Big Moose Lodge.
The high school cast followed with The Cryptid Survival Guide, a fast-paced comedy featuring a cast of quirky cryptids trying to survive encounters with humans.
In addition to the actors on stage, many students contributed their talents behind the scenes—painting sets, creating costumes, running lights and sound, and keeping the stage, props, and scene changes organized so the shows ran smoothly.
We’re proud of the creativity, teamwork, and dedication these students showed throughout the process. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the performances and celebrate the work of these young artists. 🎭💚

It's Throwback Thursday! Do you recognize this group of skiers and snowboarders from the 2002 ski club? They must have had a blast hitting the slopes together!

🤖✨ Selkirk Elementary First Grade Robot Invention Project! ✨🤖
Our amazing first graders have been busy inventing robots designed to make their lives better! Students used their creativity and problem-solving skills to design a robot that could help with everyday tasks.
While planning and building their inventions, students followed the writing process to create an expository essay explaining what their robot does and why it would be helpful. From robots that help clean bedrooms to ones that help with homework or morning routines, their ideas were thoughtful, imaginative, and full of innovation!
We are so proud of the hard work, creativity, and writing skills our students showed throughout this project. Way to go, first grade inventors! 🚀

Selkirk Elementary 4th and 5th graders had an amazing Invention Convention! 💡
Fourth graders spent several weeks planning, designing, and building their inventions completely from scratch. They proudly presented their creations and explained how their inventions work to other classes and parents last week.
Fifth graders designed their inventions using the 3D design software Tinkercad. They showcased their creative designs on their iPads and shared descriptions of their inventions during their presentations.
It was a fantastic day filled with creativity, innovation, and pride in their work! Students loved sharing their inventions with younger grades and visiting parents. We are so proud of their hard work and imagination! 👏

It's Throwback Thursday! This group helped keep spirits high during athletic events. Do you recognize these pep band members from 1981?

Where Are They Now Wednesday!
This week we’re featuring Mollee (Beatty) McCoy, Selkirk Class of 2001.
During high school, Mollee was involved in basketball, softball, band/pep band, and ASB. She earned a varsity volleyball spot as a freshman and had the opportunity to play alongside her idol, “Big Molly.” After tearing her ACL that year and missing her sophomore season, she stayed connected to athletics by keeping stats for the football team each fall.
Mollee also played trumpet in the jazz group QuintEssence, a five-member ensemble formed by Mr. Johnson. She credits her favorite teachers Mr. Villegas, Ms. Weir, and Mr. Kinney as important influences during her time at Selkirk. The opportunity to be a part of Selkirk athletics was particularly impactful for Mollee, and she feels grateful for the inspiration that came from her coaches: Kelly Cain, Don Almquist, Cathy Enyeart, and Andy Anderson.
Mollee has worked as a nurse for 17 years, including more than 10 years as an Oncology Nurse Navigator, a role she describes as her dream job. Supporting patients and families during difficult seasons of life has been deeply meaningful work.
She and her husband, Craig McCoy (also a Selkirk graduate), have been married for 20 years and have three children. Their family life is full of camping, riding four-wheelers, hunting, and traveling from one sporting event to another. Mollee says one of her greatest joys is watching her children experience the intangible life lessons that come from team sports
For the past eight years, Mollee and Craig also had the privilege of having her grandparents, Frank and Lois Beatty, live with their family. Mollee shares, "They both recently went to be with our Lord, and we are all figuring out what life looks like without them. My kids were so blessed to get to know their great-grandparents so well!!"
We’re proud of the way Mollee continues to serve others, invest in her family, and carry forward the lessons she gained as a Selkirk student-athlete.

It's Throwback Thursday! This group worked hard to preserve your school memories. Do you recognize the yearbook staff from 2005?

Where Are They Now Wednesday!
This week we’re featuring Glenn Blakeslee, Selkirk Class of 1987, who currently serves as the Pend Oreille County Sheriff.
While at Selkirk, Glenn participated in Track and Field, and his 4x100 relay team still holds the school record. He remembers several outstanding teachers, including Eva Gayle Six, Janie Baker, Larry Jungblom, Larry Reed, and Van Whysong. Two who made a lasting impact were Sam Nicholas, for his dedication to teaching, counseling, and coaching, and Mr. Barnes, whose typing and business math classes proved valuable throughout Glenn’s career.
After graduating in 1987, Glenn wasn’t sure what career path to pursue. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving a year and a half in Guam on a 95-foot patrol and search-and-rescue boat, followed by another year and a half in Westport, Washington, on heavy weather rescue boats. During his time in Guam, he met and married his wife.
After his military service, Glenn worked in a shipyard and later moved to California, where he worked in construction before training as a medical assistant. He spent about five years working as a physical therapy aide in both a doctor’s office and a hospital. Eventually, he returned to Spokane, working in industrial rehabilitation, warehouse operations, and drywall - gaining life and work experience along the way.
Encouraged by his parents to pursue a stable career that provided benefits and retirement, and inspired by early exposure to law enforcement, Glenn applied for a Deputy position with the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office in 1998. He was hired in 1999.
Since then, Glenn has served:
• 10 years as a Deputy
• 2 years as a Major Crimes/Drug Detective
• 8 years as a Patrol Sergeant
• The last 7 years as the elected Sheriff
He has also held specialty roles including Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Critical Incident Response Team Assistant Leader, and Search and Rescue Coordinator. Today, his office includes approximately 40 employees across Patrol, Civil, Dispatch, Corrections, and Emergency Management.
Glenn describes his career in public service as deeply rewarding, and says he loves serving the community he grew up in.
We’re proud to highlight Glenn’s path from Selkirk graduate to community leader, a reminder that career journeys are not always linear, but dedication and service make a lasting impact.
