Water Testing at Selkirk Elementary
In 2017, the Legislature directed the Washington State Department of Health to test for lead in drinking water in public schools in an effort to reduce children’s overall exposure to lead in the environment. As part of our commitment to ensuring the health of our students and staff is protected, we recently participated in this program.
On 3/16/2018 DOH staff sampled 24 fixtures at Selkirk Elementary. This represents every fixture that provides drinking water to students or is used to prepare food. While none of the water samples showed lead levels above the EPA’s action level of 20 parts per billion, some samples had trace detectable lead.
To help reduce lead in the drinking water as much as possible we are replacing the drinking fountain in the entryway, putting filters on two fixtures in the elementary gym and developing a flushing program in the rest of the school to reduce lead levels that may increase in fixtures when they are not in use.
Water testing results are available at the district office, 446-2951, and on our website,

    What is Family Access?
Family Access is a web-based program that allows parents to see their child’s online information. At the middle and high school levels, Family Access includes grades. However, at the elementary school, parents can view attendance, food service, emergency contact information, etc. This is a great way to keep track of your child’s lunch money account. No more waiting for the secretary! Just sign up and check the account any time of day! One account per family allows parents to see important information for all of their children.

How to Get Your Family Access Account
Contact Carey Smith or Sara O'Donnell at the elementary school office to set up you Family Access account for the Skyward Portal. You simply need to supply an email address and decide on a password. Account set-up is quick and in minutes you will have access to your child's attendance information and meal account data. If you have a child in grades 6-12 and already have Family Access account, the log on information is the same. You only need one account per family. If you have questions or need assistance, please call the office.
